Hi and welcome to the first post on the Baw Baw Singers Conductor's Blog! I thought this would be a good place to capture the week-by-week journey of our happy and inclusive choir. My name is Libby Willems, and I am honored to be the Musical Director of Baw Baw Singers since April 2014 (or 2015?? I'll have to check that...). Saturday 19th February 2022 was a very special day for Baw Baw Singers. This was our first community outing in years. The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on our ability to gather in person and sing. Needless to say, we were all pretty excited to be contributing to the annual Drouin Ficifolia Festival in its 34th year. So we donned our sprig of Ficifolia bloom and leaf (thanks Sue and Pat) and turned out with big smiles on our faces! Read more about this wonderful community event https://www.ficifoliafestival.org.au/ We tried something new with this performance. We made a pretty flyer for the audience to click a QR code and find the song lyrics. This fits with our purpose to "Promote the benefits of regular, welcoming and friendly participation in music making of a collective and recreational nature". We saw this performance as a place to invite the audience to sing along with us. I chose five familiar songs:
Thank you to our talented musicians, Bob Yuill (keyboard) and Brett Forge (flute). Thank you to the event organisers and stage managers, thank you to the Baw Baw Singers Committee for their support to participate in this performance. Most of all - thank you to our committed and happy Members of Baw Baw Singers! Credits: Photos - John Griffiths.
